Purr-Cy
The Injured Cat

This is how Purr-Cy looked when he came to the shelter back in September, 2006. He was emaciated, covered with fleas, and someone had shaved his beautiful long fur. But the worst part was his leg: he had a large, open wound with dead flesh dangling from it. He should not have been a happy camper. But the two young girls who found him on the street said it best, “Look how affectionate he is! And listen to him PURR!!” Really it sounded like a small car engine was inside the young cat's chest! He was a great cat, but what could be done about that leg? Could it be saved?

Luckily, a volunteer agreed to take him to the vet immediately. There, Dr. LaNita Flanary set to work. First, all the old, rotten skin had to come off! That HURT!! Poor Purr-cy cried and cried, but it had to done. Next, antibiotics and treatment for all those fleas, and some meds that would “draw up” the skin around the large open, wound. He was on the road to recovery! But it would take several weeks until he would be back to normal.

Today, Purr-Cy is looking much better! His hair has grown back, (especially his big, fluffy tail) and there is no trace of his awful leg wound. He is neutered and up-to-date on all his vaccines, as well as being feline leukemia negative. Purr-Cy would like to find a nice home with children who would pet him a lot. And he still has a VERY loud purr!
