Starvin' Marvin
The Cemetery Pup
The story of Marvin begins with two kind women, one of whom works in the office of a local cemetery. It's a cold winter day, and she hears scratching at the back door of the office, followed by some bumping sounds. When she goes to investigate, she spies the most bedraggled-looking puppy she has ever seen! He is starving, and all his rib bones and hip bones are showing! The little guy must have been fending for himself for weeks.
After giving him some scraps from around the office, she calls her daughter. “I can't just leave him here, it's too cold, and he's about to starve.”
“Why not call Project Hope?” suggested the daughter. She had seen the no-kill shelter at Petsmart, and thought he might have a chance of getting care there.
After a short chat with Doug Roark, acting president at that time, the ladies decide to bring the pup to PH. After a bath and de-worming, Marvin gets a warm bed and a small amount of food and water. The staff know that he should get 3-4 small meals a day until his system adjusts to having food again. And before he gets adopted, he will have to gain back some muscle mass, which could take several weeks. After that, he will have his shots and be neutered, and ready for a new home!
This is what Project Hope is all about!
